Depending on the flight arrival time, some activities may take place on this day, although most of the flights are in the evening.

Today we will use art as a tool for change. With the guidelines of the people in charge, we will paint some of the facades of the Achada Grande community. Afterwards we will eat cachupa in a local place. In the afternoon, we will take a walk through this neighborhood to see its beautiful murals. In the evening, we will go to Plateau where there is usually live music.

Day 3
Today we will go to the "green lung" of the island and will visit the fruit and vegetable crops of the inner lands. With the help of Benjamin, we will have a tasting of tropical and organic fruits and afterwards, a varied traditional meal with natural juices.

Traditional Cape Verdean lunch near the Sucupira market. At sunset we will go to Qebra Canela to contemplate the beautiful sunsets of this continent.

day 5
We will visit Cidade Velha, where the history of the archipelago began. It is the oldest city of Cape Verde, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 2009. We will have lunch at a local beach bar owned by a Cape Verdean family with a terrace overlooking the sea. If possible we can enjoy a swim in its rocky beach and natural spa :)

Visit the socio-educational project we work with, so that you can get to know firsthand the different activities that are carried out in the Achada Grande neighborhood. Whenever possible, we will participate in a workshop with the children of the association. Afterwards, we will walk through this colorful neighborhood to see its beautiful murals. We will have lunch in a local restaurant.
In the afternoon and depending on his availability, we could paint a mural wiith Tutu Sousa and visit his studio. Tutu is a Cape Verdean artist who is carrying out a very beautiful work of transformation of the whole neighborhood through painting.

day 7
Today we will visit Porto Rincão, a beautiful village located in the western part of Santiago Island. We will explore the fisherman's quarter of Rincão, a place where fish is the main source of income. If conditions permit, we will take a boat ride and have lunch with a local family. Afterwards, we will have time to relax and swim at the beautiful Porto beach.

Departure to the north of the island towards the interesting community of Rabelados where it seems as if time has stopped. We will visit this ancient town full of history and art and will enjoy the artistic work that is done there. Today we are going to visit the Lazaro Cave, a natural site in the area. This cave is 10m deep and has several legends about its origin. We will have lunch at a local organization that does a wonderful job of recycling waste. We will visit their facilities to learn about how they work and the products they make from reused glass (flower pots, soap dishes, souvenirs).

Project Location

Project

The project is located in Achada Grande about 10 minutes by cab from the center of the capital and from the Plateau district, the most central neighborhood.  It is located east of the city center, between the port of Praia to the south and the Nelson Mandela International Airport to the north. This neighborhood has a great tourist attraction and a lot of character as it has a great street life with all sorts of art displays.

Climate

Cape Verde enjoys a warm climate all year round. During the course of the year, the temperature generally varies from 21 °C to 27 °C and rarely drops below 20 °C or rises above 28 °C. From April to October temperatures are very high (around 28 degrees and high humidity). From November to March it cools down a little and temperatures drop a few degrees but it is still a hot climate with high temperatures during the day and night.

You will stay in a community-run lodge in Achada Grande, with shared bathroom facilities.
