It doesn't matter if you have a clear idea of where you want to go or if you are open to any proposal. At Tumaini we will help you find the solidarity trip that best fits your profile, experience, availability and concerns. We will guide you, we will give you all the information and we will be there to answer any questions you may have! If there is something that is very important to you (that there are other volunteers in the project, that it is in an urban area, that it has WIFI, etc.) let us know so that we can offer you the best option for you.
Most NGOs are open all year round, so you decide when to volunteer. However, your volunteering must last for the minimum time required for each project (usually two weeks). We will also let you know if there are any other requirements you need to meet. We will do our best to make your trip the experience of a lifetime.
Once you've decided on the project you want to collaborate with, it's time to buy your ticket! Once you have it and know the exact dates of your volunteering, let us know! Now it's time to organise your trip to make the most of it.
It's time to book your place and accommodation at the NGO. To do this, we will ask you to fill in a form and make a deposit of 290 € to formalise your booking. The rest of the amount is paid directly to the local NGO (in most cases this is done when you arrive at your destination).
Once you have booked your place, you will have to take care of the travel arrangements: visa, vaccinations, insurance, etc. At Tumaini we will help you to do this so that you spend less time on paperwork and more time getting information about the country you are going to visit. You will also have to take the Tumaini training course, essential to get to know the reality you are going to visit, make the most of the experience and travel in a more responsible way.
Whenever possible, Tumaini will put you in contact with a person who has already travelled to the project so that you can ask them anything you need. We are also available for any questions you may have. Also, if you are travelling alone and there is another person who will be travelling on similar dates, we can put you in contact to prepare the experience together.
What to pack? What transport is available? Places to visit? What is the food like on the project? If you have any questions, we'll be happy to help you 🙂
Once you are on the ground, you will be assisted by a local coordinator. If you request it, you will also be picked up at the airport (available in almost all projects). At Tumaini, we will be looking forward to your arrival and your stay. If you have any problems or doubts about your volunteering, in addition to your local coordinator, you can contact us and we will help you in any way we can.
After your solidarity trip we will ask you to fill in a short survey to find out how your experience went. Whenever necessary, we will hold an evaluation meeting or call to hear your feedback and come up with ideas to improve the experience.
And... you will be part of the Tumaini family! If you want, you can take part in solidarity events, meetings with volunteers, talks about international volunteering, etc.
What are you going to do now that you have been bitten by the solidarity bug? We encourage you to continue working for a better world wherever you are and, of course, whenever you travel, to do so in a responsible and supportive way.
Because a journey of solidarity... never ends!
