Environmental solidarity trip to Nusa Penida
Work to protect wildlife and their habitat on this beautiful island of Bali.
Throughout Indonesia, endemic birds are threatened with extinction due to poaching and the wildlife trade. The center is responsible for the breeding and release of critically endangered birds. It is also in charge of habitat protection, reforestation and agroforestry (agriculture integrated with the cultivation and conservation of trees).
On the other hand, we work with environmental education for the local population. Teaching sustainable ways of earning a living such as ecotourism and organic farming to reduce reliance on logging and illegal palm oil plantations which are the main drivers of deforestation. We also give free English classes and have a library for community use.
On this solidarity trip you will work monitoring endemic birds of this island, giving English classes and doing reforestation work. It is a learning experience suitable for all kinds of people, groups or families from 7 years old.

Participating in a project like this gives you the opportunity to have very interesting conversations and exchange personal stories and ways of looking at life with people from a country as far away as Indonesia in a more equal and intimate space than the pure exchange of goods and services provided by the usual tourist trips.
How flexible the organisation was in allowing me to visit and collaborate on the other projects in Bali, as well as learning about the Borneo project from the project coordinator, which made the experience much more interesting and diverse.
Being accompanied at all times by Tumaini, which has given me a lot of peace of mind at all levels when embarking on this alone, All the information provided has been very useful and the accompaniment has been great. I have felt that you have given me the confidence and the necessary tools to launch myself with open arms into this beautiful experience, First of all, thank you very much for being with me all the way 🙂

Every day was a surprise! We would get up at around seven in the morning, all the volunteers would eat the delicious breakfast that Santi would prepare for us with so much love and then we would get down to work! Depending on the number of volunteers and the needs of the centre, the tasks varied, we did them in groups or alone. Once they were finished, we would bring out our most adventurous spirit and set off to discover the island, its corners and its magic. Afterwards, we would recharge our batteries in one of its warungs or restaurants and return to the project for the afternoon's activities. After the activities, all the volunteers would have dinner together, chat, play cards and karaoke with the project staff until midnight.
During my stay in the project, on the 17th of August, the Indonesian Independence Day took place. A very special and symbolic day for the entire local community of Nusa Penida. We volunteers were given the wonderful opportunity to share it with the local school children. Together we organised a competition with lots of games for the children.
It has been pure magic as the project has become a point of connection with the local community of the island, its culture, landscape and natural beauty, as well as with countless people from all over the world whose curiosity and passion has led us to coincide in such a special place.
An experience that I treasure in my heart and that will stay with me for the rest of my life. The attention received by Tumaini is unbeatable. You feel their affection, their light and their company wherever you are, wherever you go, before, during and after the trip. The connection and the bond they establish with the volunteers is very special.

All in all a lot of fun, laughing all the time. The local people, the staff, the volunteers. A great personal quality. Everything was perfect. The attention of Tumaini has been very good, necessary for me to dare to take the step.

I loved getting to know the island through these FNPF activities. For those who like snorkelling, it is a paradise. I have fulfilled all my personal objectives: living together, languages, discovering Asia, working in an environmental activity ..... I have had enough free time to rest, do sport (diving) and get to know the island. (Attention Tumaini) Great, I appreciate this first filter that you make to be sure to go to an activity that is really worthwhile.
