In fourteen days you will be able to live a unique experience that combines conservation, learning, leisure and adventure in a unique environment.
paradisiacal surroundings: the most unknown Mexico in a very beautiful and little exploited area: the coast of Oaxaca.

The coordinator is Bea, a nature-loving girl from Madrid who has been there for several years. Together with her, you will walk along the beaches at night in search for turtles to collect their eggs. You will visit magical natural sites and wild beaches with mangroves at their feet. You will take care of the deer and participate in activities with the seized goods. crocodiles of the most protected lagoon for the species in Oaxaca. In addition, you will participate in environmental education workshops and in beach cleaning.

By participating in these activities, you will be taking care of the natural resources and collaborating directly with the conservation groupsWe are doing our bit, interacting with and strengthening ties between different cultures.

In this programme of experiences for the conservation you will be contributing to strengthening the impact of local groups and the socio-economic development of the area 💚.

Volunteer Program

Day 1
We would like to emphasise that the following itinerary is indicative as all activities depend on biological and social cycles, as well as on natural conditions and the travellers' own group. You need to be very flexible before the changes.
Welcome to the coast of Oaxaca. You will be picked up by Beatriz, the programme coordinator, at the airport in Puerto Escondido (PXM) and you will travel together to the first project by public transport. Afterwards, she will give you an introduction to the programme and explain to you how the activities, rules, etc. will be achieved. There will be a tour of the village of Manialtepec and its surroundings. There will also be a meeting with the horses.

Day 2
Today will be focused on a tour of the hot springs and preparation for the workshops (English and/or Environment) that will take place in the local communities.

Day 3
In the morning we will set up camera traps in the jungle, plant trees or hike to an amazing viewpoint. In the afternoon, we will dedicate the afternoon to a workshop with the community.

Day 4
The morning will be devoted to a "Mexican tortilla" cooking workshop and construction activities (design and improvement of the volunteer house). construction activities (design and improvement of the volunteers' house). In the afternoon, we will take a boat ride on the Manialtepec Lagoon, do some beach cleaning and end the day with a beautiful sunset at Puerto Suelo beach.

day 5
In the morning we will do an environmental activity in the community of Zapotalito and take a boat ride through the Chacahua National Park. In the evening, we will do a night turtle patrol in the Chacahua Bay Sanctuary (between October and May).

day 6
Today we will have the first day free in the amazing Chacahua National Park where you will have the opportunity to visit special places such as:
  • Cacalote area with beautiful beaches where you can relax.
  • Zicatela beach, known among surfers for its strong waves.
  • Lagunas de Chacahua National Park
  • See the phenomenon of bioluminescence in a lagoon - the water glows like magic!
You can also visit the interesting museum of the community of Tututepec.

day 7
This day coincides with the second free day in Puerto Escondido and you can visit the Cacalote beach.

day 8
The morning will be spent travelling from Manialtepec to Escobilla and we will receive orientation on the following activities. In the afternoon, we will participate in the release of baby turtles and do a night turtle patrol.

day 9
In the morning we will support local groups with promotion, design and construction of ecotourism signs. In the afternoon, we will again participate in the release of baby turtles and do a night turtle patrol.

day 10
Throughout the day, we will participate in the following activities:
  • Boat trip on the Ventanilla Lagoon and visit to the Environmental Management Island.
  • Feeding and maintenance of deer.
  • We will enjoy the Ventanilla beach at sunset.

Day 11
We will hike through the Gavilan jungle supporting the local team in locating camera traps, planting trees or installing ecotourism signs.

Day 12
In the morning we will go on a marine wildlife watching and snorkelling tour and in the afternoon, we will visit the Magic Town of Mazunte and Punta Cometa (the deepest point in the South Pacific Ocean of Mexico).

Day 13
Today is the last free day of the programme in the Bays of Huatulco, and once again, you will be able to visit such magical places as the following:
  • Carrizalillo Beach
  • Estacahuite Beach
  • Mazunte: a magical town full of life, in the mornings many boatmen offer tours to observe dolphins, manta rays, whales, turtles in the water, coral reefs, etc.

Day 14
Today marks the end of our trip along the coast and we will say goodbye to Bea and the rest of the group. Check out is around 12pm and we recommend returning to Mexico City from Huatulco airport (HUX).

Project Location

Project

  The programme takes place in the beautiful and peaceful coast of Oaxaca, on the Pacific coast of Mexico. You land at Puerto Escondido airport where you will be picked up for the start of the activities. At the end of the trip, you should ideally return to Mexico City from Huatulco airport.

Climate

This coastal area of Mexico generally enjoys a tropical climate, with humidity and heat throughout the year. It could be divided into three seasons:
  • November to January are the coolest months (cooler at night but still hot during the day) and without rain.
  • February to June are the hottest months. There is no rain during these months, except for June, when it may start to rain.
  • Between June and October is when there is the most rainfall in the area.

You will stay in shared rooms with local families in rooms with a maximum of 3 people.

What is included?

  • Tumaini coordinator available by email or phone whenever you need to solve all your doubts. Sometimes, if possible, face-to-face meetings are also held.
  • Online course on solidarity travel and responsible tourism, mandatory for travellers to get the most out of their experience.
  • Contact, as far as possible and on request, with travellers who have already been on the project.
  • Contact, if possible and on request, with people who are going to travel on similar dates to chat before the solidarity trip, resolve doubts or organize it together.
  • Basic Tumaini Costanese-Spanish dictionary.
  • Accident and liability insurance specialized in volunteering.
  • Follow-up during the solidarity trip.
  • Letter of reference or certificate of solidarity travel/volunteering on request.
  • CO2 compensation by planting a tree and monitoring it for three years on the island of Borneo in Indonesia.
On the part of the project:
  • Accommodation in shared rooms in local communities.
  • All public transport journeys between projects and transport upon arrival from Puerto Escondido Airport (PXM)
  • 3 group meals per day (except on the 3 days off).
  • Local coordinator and community guides.
  • Basic materials for work and common use.
What is not included?

  • International or domestic ticket.
  • Transport and food on the 3 days off.
  • Travel insurance (compulsory)
  • Extras such as personal excursions, personal hygiene products, shopping, food outside the centre etc.
 
Your stay generates a direct benefit for the NGO, with your solidarity trip, you are directly contributing to making the project self-sustainable.
You don't have permission to register
