Lucas and his first solidarity trip in Peru
Lucas has just experienced his first Solidarity trip in Peru with Tumaini. He is 18 years old. The first time we met in Madrid, he told me that, before starting university, he wanted to collaborate in a social project in another country. During the trip, he could think about what career to study and how he wanted to guide his life.
I was surprised by his maturity and his enthusiasm for making a solidarity trip. He was very young, but he was very clear that it was time to collaborate and get to know a reality different from his own.
After speaking with him and knowing his profile and interests, I recommended him the educational center of Peru. It is a good place to meet young people of your age and do playful activities with boys and girls from Cuzco. Its about Ideal project to make a solidarity trip for the first time.
It seemed like a great idea to him: he loved the project and the chance to meet people with the same concerns! In the end, he collaborated in the center for almost two months and his experience has been fantastic.
Games and tasks
Lucas's day to day in Peru was very busy. «He took advantage of the mornings to visit some place or take a walk around the city. At 2:30 p.m. I went to school until 7 p.m. and then went to have dinner with a volunteer. I loved finishing school activities and going down to the hostel playing with the children in the streets.", Explain.
«At school I was the tutoring coordinator for the little ones. He helped the boys and girls with their homework and wrote down in a notebook how they had behaved, which subjects they were good at, which subjects they were weak in, etc., "he adds.
a difficult childhood
The day to day of these children is not always easy. Lucas tells us: “I remember a girl who told me that she would love for her father to be like me. Another day he told me that his father was not good and beat his mother. One of the objectives of the project, precisely, is to combat this type of situation and educate these little ones in values. Boys and girls come to the center to carry out different activities: homework, arts and crafts workshops and theater, and classes that deal with social problems that affect them.

"I loved the good atmosphere that existed among the volunteers and contributing my grain of sand to the project"
